September 24 @ 8:30 am 5:00 pm

This workshop is designed to introduce standard methods of surface-geophysical techniques commonly used in groundwater investigations. Techniques to be discussed are various types of electrical and electromagnetic methods, seismic, gravimetry, and magnetic methods. Basic theory, field equipment, limited discussion of techniques of data acquisition and processing, and interpretation of selected methods with the focus toward groundwater investigations are covered.

The intent of the workshop is to provide a sense of what the methods are physically measuring, capabilities and limitations of the methods, and how geophysical measurements can be used as supporting data and interpretation for groundwater studies. This workshop is offered at the introductory level. A background in geophysics is not necessary, but a general understanding of geology and groundwater hydrology would be helpful. Field examples and simple exercises of selected methods will be provided to reinforce the usefulness of surface-geophysical techniques to groundwater investigations.
